The Groves girls’ flag football team is officially heading into the 2026 season with excitement, hard work and a fresh sense of motivation. With the mix of new players on the field and the old, the season can’t be predicted, but it’s expected to be a good one.
Freshman Kailee Sharron says the focus is on enjoying the experience and building strong team moments.
“I’m just looking forward to sharing good moments with teammates and winning,” Sharron said.
The team has been preparing through conditioning, weight training and staying consistent at practices. Sharron said showing up every day is what will make the difference.
“I think training and going to every practice is what makes a good season,” Sharron said.
Senior Ella Kecskemeti is especially excited to be back after missing last season due to an injury.
“I’m mostly just looking forward to playing again,” Kecskemeti said. “I’m excited to be back on the field.”
This season also brings a new opportunity, as teams now have a chance to compete in a state championship tournament, which is something that wasn’t available before. Kecskemeti said success will come from trust and positivity within the team.
“I think success happens when teammates trust each other and build a positive environment,” Kecskemeti said. “We’re trying to create that.”
As she returns, she’s been focused on training carefully and rebuilding connections with teammates, especially working on communication and chemistry on the field. For new players, both athletes shared simple advice. Don’t hesitate to try.
“Just go for it,” Sharron said.
“Don’t be afraid to try new things,” Kecskemeti said. “You might find something you really enjoy or even a position that fits you better.”
With a mix of returning and new players, players are sounding confident in this season and looking forward to making it a great one. With the team’s goals and training, Groves is aiming for a strong season and, hopefully, a long run in the state tournament.
