The Groves Girls Basketball team’s season is starting to come to a close, and with an undefeated 10-0 League record, making them the OAA White League Champions. In addition to numerous records being broken, this season was definitely a major success.
The team is getting closer to the district tournament, so we would like to share some highlights and details about this team’s incredible regular season.
The Groves Girls Basketball Team has had a record-breaking year, one of those records being Groves Junior Harlem Simpson reaching 1000 career points in the team’s first game against Birmingham Seaholm High School.
“I felt really proud to watch her do that,” Genevive Meihn, a Sophomore on the team, said. “She works really hard in practice and works really hard in games, so she’s very deserving.”
This was a very special moment for the team, because of the shared bond among the team.
“We built a lot of trust and foundation in the team, so being able to trust each other on and off the court has helped us succeed in knowing that we have each other’s back no matter what happens or no matter what goes on in the game,” Mehin said.
Not only that, but the basketball team has recently changed its offensive strategy, which has largely contributed to its success this year.
“We kind of changed the whole way we play…so it’s completely different from what we did last year,” Meihn said. “We run trap, shoot threes and just sprint the whole time.”
This change in the way the team plays has led to record-breaking success, including breaking the school record for most points scored in a single game against Berkley and the most three-pointers made in a game against Oxford. They broke the record for most points scored in a single match again after setting it.
It isn’t just the new strategy that has helped the team reach the heights they have—the girls’ energy throughout the game isn’t just on the court, it shows on the bench too, and gets the team hyped. This type of energy is something that has helped lead to the team’s current winning streak.
“Just the way we play… our energy on the bench is insane. So I feel like that helps too and gets everyone going,” Jacey Roy, a current senior at Groves, said. Even with all this energy, the team knows there is still always room for improvement and making their team spirit even better.
“Maybe just having even more energy than we already have…I feel like energy the whole game, not just at the end or when we’re doing well, can make the difference,” Roy said.
If the girls keep up their hype, it could help them make it to districts or maybe even further. The team played its first game of the district bracket on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, against Birmingham Seaholm, and pulled out a big win, 67-47. The team will now go on to play either Bloomfield Hills High School on March 6, 2026, at 6:00 p.m for the district finals.
All in all, the 2025-2026 Groves Girls Basketball team had a great performance with many impressive accomplishments and records. The energy this season has been at an all-time high, which has shown through in their success this year.
