Did Taylor Swift ruin the Super Bowl?

Taylor Swift is a great girlfriend and tries to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce, who is a tight end on the Chiefs, by attending his football games. Many people are glad to see her there, especially the cameramen. However, people argue that Swift is shown on the camera too much and that she’s taking the attention away from the game, but is this really her fault?

Swift was on camera during the Chiefs vs Dolphins game on January 23 for a total of one minute and 16 seconds, over a period of five times. Assuming that the game is in play for only 60 minutes this is insane!  During a game between the Ravens vs the Chiefs, which determined which team will attend the Super Bowl, Swift was shown four times and a total of 32 seconds.  When Swift attended the Super Bowl her screen time was a little longer at 53 seconds throughout the game, throughout a duration of 12 times.

Joy Koy, an American comedian, made Swift aware of this amount of screentime. During the Golden Globes in 2024 Koy made a joke saying, “the big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes we have fewer shots of Taylor Swift.” Swift did not show a huge reaction to this; she simply made a bold face and sipped her wine.

During an interview with the Times magazine in 2023  she spoke up about this and said, “I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in. There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads.”

When Swift is on camera during the games, she is shown celebrating and cheering for Kelce. It looks like she’s just there to enjoy the game and is seen having a good time with Kelce’s mom, commonly dancing in the suite.

When Marta Jimenez Pelay, a ninth grader at Groves, was asked if she thought Taylor Swift was ruining the Super Bowl she replied, “No, I don’t think she is because it’s not like she’s choosing to be on the cameras.”

Do you still think Taylor Swift is ruining the Super Bowl, and that it’s her fault?
