These spicy mussels were a part of their weekly special selection when I was there. This was my first time trying mussels and at first I was very intimidated to try them because I was worried that they would be chewy and gross, but these mussels were cooked to perfection. They were soft, sweet and had the perfect amount of spice, which paired great with the delicate flavor of the mussels, creating an ample space for other flavors to take up, making it so enjoyable.

Katie Murawski is a current editor for the Scriptor staff. Last year, she gained experience as a reporter and hopes to use those skills to create more content for the website. Katie’s love of creating started long before entering the Scriptor Staff. She became interested in photography after stealing her mom’s phone and taking pictures of various nature scenes when she was younger. When it comes to writing, Katie loves artistry and more story-based content; she lets her imagination shine! Outside of school, she values quality time with her friends, family, and herself!

If these aren’t to your liking, there are plenty of other things to do and other places to eat. Head up to Boyne City!

Along the river there are felled trees, rapids and rocks, so be careful if you decide to try it! During the Fourth of July, the river is the spot to be. The town buys rubber ducks to float down the river, and whoever’s duck wins the race gets a cash prize! There are also rafts that come down the river with water guns after the duck race. There are a few spots around the city that are great fishing spots, such as the docks, and right around the mouth of the river.

In the warmer months, boats can be seen all over the lake, as well as people tubing, jet skiing, kayaking and paddle boarding! Some thrill-seeking, more experienced kayakers kayak on the river pictured, which leads into the lake after the bridge.

The crepe menu is split into 2 sections: buckwheat and sweet. The buckwheat crepe base is used for the savory crepes, while the sweet is used for the rest of the crepes. There are also a lot of different toppings for both types of crepes, so no matter what kind you pick, there will be something for you!

Gilda’s Lake Street Bakery is an Italian pastry shop and bakery located right around the corner from Kilwins. It’s family-run, and they offer a large range of delicious pastries– most importantly, crepes. During the farmers’ market, people flock to get crepes on Saturday mornings, but otherwise, they’re sold at home base: the bakery.

BC Pizza is one of two pizza places in Boyne (the other being Little Caesers) but I recommend BC Pizza. It’s an authentic Italian pizza place which has appetizers, such as bread sticks and salad, and five specialty pizzas: Dill Pickle, Smokehouse Mac and Cheese, Southwest Steak & Portabella, Greek-’za Mediterranean, and Chicken Parmazeti. There are many kinds of pizza to choose from, but if none of them appeal to you, there’s an option to make your own pizza. There is also a large variety of sizes, ranging from a 6” and 4-piece personal pizza, to the “Sarge”, which is a whopping 20” and 8 huge slices. In addition to their large pizza menu, BC Pizza also offers subs, grinders and wraps, pasta and even dessert!

Cafe Sante is a classic European style restaurant with daily specials, as well as a wide range of delicious dishes. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served. The dinner menu includes the popular steak and frites, mussels, paninis and wood-fired pizzas. The cafe also has many amenities, including a patio, which is very nice in the warmer months and has a nice view of the lake, as well as live music on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.

There is also a lot to do in the city! Pictured is Kilwins, which is a sweet shop right by the lake near the heart of the town. There’s a variety of sweets to choose from, including over 40 flavors of ice cream, caramel corn, truffles, fudge, etc. The majority of the treats in store are handmade, and there are over 75 things to choose from, so there’s something for everyone!

There are a large range of hills and trails for everyone from the beginners to the extremists. There is a total of 61 trails that are categorized into 4 different difficulty levels: green, blue, black diamond, and double black diamond. Green are the easiest runs, and there are 29 of them; blue are the intermediate runs, there are 17 of them; black diamond are the advanced runs, there are 13 of them; finally, there are two double black diamond trails, which are the hardest runs for the experts.

Pictured is the racks where you can place your skis or snowboard if you want a snack break or what not, and it can get pretty busy, so make sure to head to the slopes bright and early to beat the crowd.

There’s also a gap where there’s glass in the center of the bridge, which allows you to see 118 feet down, where skiers and snowboarders are having a great time on the slopes!

The Skybridge is the World’s Longest Timber-Towered Suspension Bridge, and it’s 1,200 feet long and 118 feet above the ground. I highly recommend this attraction for thrill seekers, as well as those who are looking for great picture spots! You can access the Skybridge entrance by a two-person lift, and when you cross the bridge, there are bathrooms and hot chocolate available.

Boyne Mountain is a great place to start. It’s the home of the World’s Longest Timber-Towered Suspension Bridge, and it also has tons of levels of slopes for everyone to try out, whether you’re experienced or not! Lessons are available for everyone for all levels (rental for boots, skis, and snowboards are also available if needed). A large, nicely decorated hotel is near the slopes, and there’s also an arcade, waterpark, and spa! There are also cabins on the sides of some of the hills if you would prefer to hop right out onto the slopes from your front door.
