From celebrating school spirit during the week, to celebrating at the big dance, homecoming is filled with constant excitement. With events like Spirit Week, field day, getting ready for the dance and the dance itself, students are able to make memories, build connections that become deeper with friends and celebrate their school spirit all in one week. Though there are so many good things about homecoming, the preparation for it can bring a wave of stress over people, with the need to rush to get everything done before the big day. Trying to balance school, sports and other activities can be difficult, and making plans with friends for the dance isn’t always the easiest, but it almost always ends up being one of the best nights you have ever had.
The first struggle of homecoming preparation is choosing a perfect dress, one that will reflect you as a person. There is a lot of pressure, feeling like you need to look your very best and knowing you only get the opportunity of homecoming four times in your entire life. In the moment it feels as if everyone has already beat you in the race, as all the dresses you want are selling out, your feelings of stress are amplified. After all of that and finally getting a dress, everyone has to scramble to find somewhere to eat. You need to be able to accommodate multiple people, not have it be too expensive, and it needs to be close to the school. At the same time, you are rushing to put together a group, and plan out all the activities that you want to happen before and after the dance; where to take pictures, who will drive to all the different places you planned to go to and where you will spend time together after the dance.
There is a major need to fit all of these plans and preparation while also handling school, which we have eight hours a day, and five days a week. To put on top of that, many of us do sports or have after school activities to manage. Though this day is filled with so much fun and excitement, it’s definitely not easy to prepare for.
Despite the inconveniences that preparing for the big day may bring, the anticipation and the enjoyment of homecoming completely overrides any of the issues that happen beforehand. While planning all of these activities, all you can think about is how fun the night will be, and the days after where you just can’t stop thinking about the night you had. Memories flood your mind, and the stress flows away like it was never even there. The decorated school and gym, the music blaring and being surrounded by friends is something that you will never forget. The energy is high, and everyone is in a great mood, looking their best and enjoying every minute of their night. Something to remember if you ever have similar feelings leading up to a week like this, is that in the future, you will never remember the stressful plans, the rush to get what you need, how to squeeze it into your busy schedule, or anything else. All you will remember is the moment that everything came together, and everyone having fun and doing what they love, enjoying every second they were at the dance.
