For many, October symbolizes a transition with the leaves changing, the sun is waning and the realization that the year is slowly coming to an end is dawning. This is part of what inspired the viral “October theory,” a motivational trend that suggests the final three months of the year is prime time to change your life for the better. The “October Theory” claims that October is the second New Year of the year. The month of October is a great way to refresh yourself before the New Year. You can start making your New Year’s resolutions now, or finish up the ones you made from the beginning of this year. For some people the “October Theory” serves as an alarm to make certain changes before the year is over. It makes sense that people are trying to better themselves before the holiday season and get themselves ready for the New Year.
The “October Theory” is a theory made up by a TikToker named Izzy Utterson. She described the month as a time when people “decide what things need to be set into motion.” This could lead people into new relationships or completing the goals they set for themselves in the beginning of the year. If you’re trying to complete those New Year’s resolutions, or just trying to better yourself, you may be participating in the October Theory. Some things that can help you participate in the October Theory would be putting yourself out there, doing new things, hanging out with different people, trying new hobbies or setting some achievable goals for yourself. Me and many other seniors are trying to have college applications done by the end of October. By setting this deadline of finishing my college applications by the end of the month, it helps me to hold myself accountable. I hope that by completing the application process in October, that leaves me with November to focus on the things I need to get done before this year is over.
When you are trying to set a goal, make sure you think of something you know you can complete in the last 4 months of the year. If that’s ending the semester with all A’s and B’s, start working at that goal now! Or, maybe you just want to focus on your sport and get better. My advice would be to start now no matter what your goal is. You won’t regret starting early but you will regret starting late. With all the tests, football games and fall sports coming to an end, it might feel like time is flying by— especially for seniors— so enjoy the fast pace of life. Go out with your friends last-minute and enjoy the end of 2024. With the holiday season coming up, it can be a stressful time for people. Trying to get good gifts or having all of your extended family come into town is a lot, especially on top of the regular stress of life. That’s why it is important to remember: don’t worry about the things you can’t control.
