What better way to spend your fall Friday nights than at a Groves football game? For many Groves students, there is no better way to end their busy weeks than cheering on the football team at their games. Each week, there is a new theme to dress up for, fun cheers to participate in, good games to watch, and entertaining halftime performances. There are a few etiquette rules everyone must follow to ensure everyone gets the best experience possible. Some may be too harsh, some may be not strict enough, but either way this gives students the opportunity to have a fun night out.
Senior Co-Class President, Luci Kucab has been going to football games since her freshman year and has almost always had a positive experience.
“My favorite part about the Groves student section is that it’s all of the Groves classes all coming together. This is when we get a chance to cheer on our football team all at once and we all can do the same cheers. It’s a unity thing… it’s a chance for us to all be together, which I love,” Kucab said.
The other Senior Co- Class President, Talia Kamoo, loves to dress for the themes, participate in cheers, and make connections with her fellow classmates.
“I think it’s fun when you’re all working together. You get to talk to people you don’t usually talk to in your regular day so you get to bond with them and have fun,” Kamoo said.
Each game has a theme. Common themes used are U.S.A., lights off, lights on, tropical and many others. Fans attending the game can keep up to date with the theme each week by checking the various Groves social media accounts
“My favorite theme is either camo or USA. Camo because I have a gilly suit that I wear so i’m totally decked out, and this year I think we’re going to play Welcome to the Jungle, which is so fun. I also love the USA theme because I get to wear my USA overalls, which is one of my favorite outfits,” Kucab said.
Every student can find a way to express their creativity through their outfits each week. It’s the easiest and most fun way to support your school and show off your school spirit! Some of the most exciting games Groves students look forward to are the homecoming game, and the big rivalry game against Seaholm.
“I’m really looking forward to the homecoming game, which is when we all have matching shirts, which I’m excited about. I’m also excited for the Seaholm game, because it’s when the most adrenaline is in the stands. Just the animosity between the two schools really makes it lika a fun environment,” Kamoo said.
But don’t worry, those games are not the only ones to look forward to. Every Friday through the end of October there is the opportunity to come out and support Groves, whether it is in our home stadium, or an opposing one. No matter where it is, the game will always be fun, and a great game to come watch and support!
In order to keep the student section running smoothly and ensure that each student leaves the game pleased, there are a few “rules” that all students must follow. A major one is seniority. The seniors get to stand in the front of the student section, then juniors, sophomores, and freshman in the back. Another rule to make the Student section alive, is everyone should be standing and actively participating in all the cheers. It makes the experience more fun for yourself and everyone else around you. Students only sit down at half time. Make sure you move back so the seniors have room to sit, you can go get a snack from the concessions to sit back and enjoy all the halftime performances from various Groves teams like the marching band, pom pon, and the cheerleaders. Be respectful, don’t throw things, push people out of the way, or anything else that does not align with the Groves Way. Lastly, have fun. You only get 4 years of high school, take advantage of them; dress up for themes, cheer on your classmates, hang out with your friends. Make memories with your friends to make highschool last a lifetime.
Coming out to a football game, or any Groves sports game is a great way to spend a free night and show your support for your classmates. When in the student section, don’t forget to participate, be respectful, and most importantly, have fun! Football season is short, but the memories made with your friends will last you a lifetime.
