Boys tennis team qualifies for the state championship

After taking home the state championship title in 2021, the Groves Boys Tennis team is yearning to hold onto that title for a second year in row. Groves hosted 6 neighboring schools on October 6 for Regionals. These matches would determine qualifications and placements for the upcoming state championships. The players accumulated a total of 17 match wins, surpassing the required amount of wins (10) in order to qualify.

Top contributors included senior singles player Nolen Kovan and Junior doubles players Michael Dolan and Spencer Goldeberg with three wins. Freshman singles player Max Schardt managed two wins, despite a minor injury to his nose, and doubles players, senior Dylan Wolf and junior Jake Rosenwasser accumulated 2 wins.

“We didn’t play our best, but we are looking to make a comeback this weekend,” Kovan said.

The team will travel to Midland, Michigan on Friday, Oct 14 for the 2022 state championships.

Doubles players senior Dylan Wolf and junior Jake Rosenwasser keep their gaze focused on their opponents during an intense regionals match with Seaholm Highschool on Thursday, Oct 6.
